Physical Therapy for Pelvic Health
Pelvic floor dysfunction comprises a range of issues for both women and men, often manifesting as urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, or sexual dysfunction. The condition can be limiting and, for some people, even a bit embarrassing. It can hinder your daily life and prevent you from doing some of your daily tasks or the activities you love.
In women, it frequently stems from childbirth, menopause, or gynecological issues, while in men, it can result from prostate problems or surgery.
The nature of pelvic floor conditions can make seeking treatment embarrassing and uncomfortable. In a one-on-one environment, our physical therapists will help guide you through a plan of care designed to improve the strength of your pelvic floor while reducing pain and dysfunction. Our team can compassionately address these sensitive conditions to reduce pain, restore function, and improve your quality of life.
COMMON PELVIC FLOOR CONDITIONS WE TREAT:
Bladder problems: incontinence, urgency/frequency
Pelvic pain
Pain with intercourse/orgasm
Frequent UTIs
Painful Bladder Syndrome
Genital pain
Pain after prostate surgery
Pain following hysterectomy or pelvic reconstruction surgery
Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Prenatal: back pain, hip pain, pelvic pain, core and pelvic floor weakness, urinary leakage, general fitness, preparation for birth
Postpartum Pelvic Health
Although anyone can experience pelvic floor issues, women are at higher risk. Especially after giving birth. Damage or trauma in this area can result in the weakening of muscles. Our physical therapists, as musculoskeletal experts, understand the unique changes that happen to the body during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. We provide an individualized physical therapy experience through compassionate, one-on-one care combining manual techniques and exercise. Not only do we treat your symptoms, we also work with you to regain optimal health and strength after childbirth, and reclaim your fitness routine.
POSTPARTUM CONDITIONS WE TREAT:
Recovery from both vaginal and cesarean birth
Scar sensitivity or pain
Abdominal, pelvic, or vaginal pain
Pelvic prolapse
Pelvic floor strengthening
Diastasis Recti/Core strength
HOW DOES PELVIC PHYSICAL THERAPY WORK?
As with every condition we treat, pelvic floor therapy at KINISI begins with a thorough evaluation to better understand your specific issues and past medical history. The focus here will be on the lumbar spine and hips, gait, and posture to determine a plan of care thatβs right for you. Once itβs determined that therapy is the right path for you, some interventions may include:
Stretching or strengthening exercises of the legs, trunk, or pelvic muscles
Relaxation of hyperactive or muscles in spasm
Relaxation exercises for shortened pelvic muscles
Soft tissue mobilization to relieve tightness
Education in self-management and prevention
Coordination exercises
Modalities such as ice, heat, or electrical stimulation
